Project Craft/Project Trade
Educational opportunities in the construction field are not limited to area high schools. TBBA works in conjunction with the Home Builders Institute (HBI), the workforce training and employment arm of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) to provide hands-on training to adjudicated youthful offenders and adult-ex offenders through Project CRAFT and Project TRADE.
Project CRAFT
HBI’s Project CRAFT (Community Restitution Apprenticeship Focused Training) is an innovative approach to balanced restorative justice for juvenile offenders and at-risk youth. Project CRAFT links hands-on construction skills training, workplace focused math and literacy, employability, safety, teamwork, and community restitution projects. HBI uses caring competent trades professionals as instructors. Project CRAFT’s educational programs are carpentry with an emphasis on framing, and high-end landscaping. Graduates are placed in career progressive home building industry jobs.
Project TRADE
HBI’s Project TRADE (Training Restitution Apprenticeship Development Employment) Pinellas is the first training program for females in a correctional institution to be operated by HBI. Project TRADE’s hands-on educational programs are designed to train these students in electrical wiring and building and apartment maintenance. Once the students have graduated, careers in their respective fields of study can be pursued.
