Many members of the TBBA are involved with their children’s activities throughout the year. For this issue, we would like to recognize three members who coach together with the Tampa Titans, an AAU 10 & Under Travel Select Baseball Team.

Scott Powell, GunnAllen Home Loans, founded the team from its conception. Going on their third year, the Tampa Titans finished the Fall 2007 season ranked number one in Florida for AAU baseball. Quite a feat for a team as young as this one! Scott is team manager and coaches third base. His son Tyler, aka “Rocket”, age 10, is third baseman and one of the teams pitchers. Scott has also served on the AAU Board of Directors.

Lonnie Kitchen, Gulfstream Insurance, is affectionately known to the team as “The Deacon”. He assists Scott with defensive maneuvers and controls the offensive lineup in the dugout. He has been with the team for three years. His son, Zachary, aka “Matrix”, is 10 and is the team’s first baseman and sometimes helps with pitching.

Michael Bello, also with GunnAllen Home Loans, serves as the team’s Assistant Coach. Going on his second year with the Titans, “Snack Shack”, as the team players like to call him, helps along the first baseline coaching.

This travel select team competes throughout the state and is based out of Tampa. Tournaments are a treat to this team; recently placing second and third. The team earned their number one position in the state based on points accrued throughout the Fall 2007 season, which comprised of 17 wins and 3 losses; with their only losses occurring during tournaments. The Tampa Titans practice a few times a week during the season and can be found playing two to three games on the weekends.

These three members of the TBBA contribute their time and effort towards providing the players of the Tampa Titans a means of learning about teamwork, sportsmanship and respect. Next time you see them, be sure and congratulate them on a winning season! You can check out all the action at the team’s website www.tampatitans.net
